Jack and the Beanstalk - English Folk Tale
Chapter 1: Jack's Trade
Jack lived with his mother in a small village. They were quite poor, so one day, Jack’s mother asked him to take their cow to the market to sell it.
On the way, Jack met an old man who offered him magic beans in exchange for the cow. Jack thought the beans sounded special, so he agreed and took the beans home.
When he told his mother about the trade, she was upset. She threw the beans out the window and sent Jack to bed without dinner.
